THREAD: @alanhahn and I decided we needed to know how the NHL season ended if it continued as scheduled, so I simmed the season day by day and the regular season has come to an end. Here's how things ended, with plenty of standings changes on the last day:
For the locals, the Islanders finished the season strong, going 10-4-0 with a big win against the Devils at the end of the season to hold them in 3rd in the Metro with 100 points. The Rangers struggled, going 3-8-1 and finishing 9 points out of the playoffs (86). NJD ended w/ 80
In the Metro, the Capitals finished 1st with 109 points, followed by the Penguins with 105 and the Isles. In the Atlantic, the Bruins take the President's Trophy with 116 points, Lightning 2nd (109) and Maple Leafs 3rd (91). Wild Cards to the Flyers (98) and Hurricanes (95)
In the Central, the Avalanche (109) defeated the Blues (108) in their final game to take first, while the Stars finished 3rd (95). Vegas was 1st in the Pacific (98) and the Oilers (96) defeated the Flames (95) in their last game to take 2nd.
West Wild Cards went to the Preds (94) and the Jets (90), who moved into that spot on the last day of the season with a win and Wild (89) loss.
Rest of East: CBJ 91, FLA 88, NYR 86, BUF 85, NJD 80, MTL 75, OTT 73, DET 50.
Rest of West: MIN 89, VAN 89, CHI 88, ARI 87, LAK 82, ANA 79, SJS 74.
Now for the playoffs.
In the East: Bruins v Hurricanes, Capitals v Flyers, Pens v Isles, Lightning v Leafs
In the West: Avs v Jets, Golden Knights v Preds, Blues v Stars, Oilers v Flames.
I will be simming these series as well to see who the Stanley Cup champ is. Stay tuned!
