Thread: The more I study video of elite pitch framers in MLB, the more I realize that very few of them use 1 “style” of receiving (Ext. to Flex/Flex to Ext). Here’s a break down of the 4 presentation techniques that I see most often utilized within each guy’s unique style.
1. Vertical lift: most often used on pitches down in the zone within the width of the C’s setup where the manipulation is essentially straight up from initial contact.
2. Lift & Center: utilized on pitches down in the zone to either the arm or glove side of the C. Instead of the glove path being a straight vertical move, it takes more of angle back to the center of their body near the sternum/chest area.
3. Center: utilized on pitches more in the middle of the zone to either arm or glove side of C where the glove path is essentially straight back to center of the body.
4. Dunk: utilized on pitches up above zone where catcher receives pitch at extension & slams ball back down into the zone with a slight manipulation back towards center of body depending on location.
