I keep thinking how one of these days we'll hear of coronavirus reaching one of the refugee megacamps & it will be a disaster of unspeakable proportions.

Refugees already live in crammed conditions, not suitable for proper personal hygiene. Theres lack of clean h20, no sewage.

Often malnourished, they subsist on a diet high in sugar &saturated fats. And while many may be underweight, the numbers of those suffering from diabetes & hypertension are enormous. Chronic diseases go undiagnosed, and if diagnosed, are poorly controlled due to no access to care

Families are often large and live in a single room. Children do not go to school and often run around the camp with other children, when parents are trying to find any kind of work inside the camp.

Communication within a refugee camp spreads mainly by the word of mouth. Community leader meetings, religious gatherings...everything that should be avoided.
Internet and TV are scarce. Literacy is low, misinformation high. Ideal conditions for covid to spread like wild fire.

Countries hosting these camps are often struggling themselves and their health care systems arent even viable during normal times, and would certainly collapse immediately in a pandemic.
If this reaches a refugee camp, we will see a humanitarian disaster unfold in front of us.
