there are so many reasons why I'm repulsed by the new Emma but one big reason is that Mia Goth plays Harriet like a straight up serial killer
honestly, Anya Taylor Joy also plays Emma with such cold blood that it's terrifying and I miss Romola Garai
Miranda Hart is well-cast, but her "SUCH news!" just makes me miss Patricia Hodge. I assume she couldn't make it because nothing about this movie is such fun
so far this movie has two things going for it:
• pretty scenery
• Autumn de Wilde is a cool name
the least they could've done was hire just one (1) hot person and yet they still couldn't clear that low bar
I was forced to watch a naked Mr. Knightley get dressed by servants and yet they couldn't drag a brush through his hair? trim the sideburns? what's the point of being rich
I hate everything about this film
give me the sets and locations to make a better movie about literally anything else
Emma is bi, it took far too long for them to realise this
there's a cake made of asparagus and I want it
it's really quite a feat, that the only interesting characters in this version are silent servants.
how is even Bill Nighy useless?
I do love a good "badly done" scene though
I would give anything for one of these stylised period films that's just the servants' commentary on their absurd aristocrat employers, they're really doing the heavy lifting here with seriously subtle physical comedy
this soundtrack makes me feel like I'm in a cult
oh so they waited til the very end to put in a good scene??? wow
I don't like this Knightley but I can appreciate a man who flings himself onto the floor because Emotions
he's always been my favourite Austen man because of his kindness to Mr. Woodhouse and how he was so willing to just move in with them. it's how I feel about men taking their wives' names
the one improvement here, over the miniseries, is Emma apologising to George herself, and how she doesn't just drop Harriet once she gets engaged. that's sweet.
George Martin is the real MVP of this story. also the only decent looking man in the entire movie wtf
