You know what? No, I am NOT going to dramatically restrict my children's screen time during this iso. Nor will I tolerate being shamed for letting them spend more time than usual plugged in right now. This situation is scary AF and you know what makes them feel better? MINECRAFT.
We're living in a virtual world atm. Yes, important for us all to unplug, but the LAST thing I'm going to do is stress out because Joe Expert on the web says I'm rotting their brains by busting out iPads instead of building, like, a climbing wall in living room, for shit's sake.
I want them to engage with the world. There will be time when this is over for going out and exploring non-digital experiences. The world is largely digital right now! You know how my kids can continue to build social skills while forbidden to see other humans? ON THUH INTERNET
It is my deepest hope that this time will further their understanding of creative uses of technology & the importance of human interaction no matter how we execute it. Also that we will bond as a family and learn new skills. My priority is the household's physical&mental health.
But some days, the benefits of using technology will go no further than Everyone Stays Sane And Out Of Each Other's Hair&that is FINE WITH ME TOO.
You do you. If that means no screentime, I'm happy for you! If that means ed-only screentime, or only-as-a-family screens, congrats!
But for me & my family, there will be hours spent on electronics that I can't rationally or educationally account for & I don't owe answers for that decision to anyone on this entire quarantined planet. Articles shaming anyone for how they cope rn can go die in a trash compactor.
