The law doesn't even deem 11 year olds old enough to consent for sex, yet you're out here fixated on the notion that 11 year olds are smart enough to understand the seriousness that the topic of sexual assault entails and consequences of spreading unfounded rumours about it.
Yes, what the child did was harmful. Yes, you weren't like that when you were 11, and neither was I.
However I'm quite certain that there's better means of punishing the child and making them learn from their mistakes than to financially put them and their family in the red for years.
Put them through counselling to find out why they behaved in such a manner. Classes on sexual education that can teach her that sexual assault isn't some topic anyone should be joking around with.
