Please please please for the love of god whether you think religion is opioid for the masses or you’re a devout believer—be wondering right now why all these men are having meltdowns about not being able to meet in person to worship.
yes, it absolutely is about money. collecting donations each sunday is a huge part of what keeps esp mega churches up and running and ministers housed in the modest mansions.

but don't forget that it's ALSO about heteropatriarchy.
the pulpit is where men get and reinforce their power. if the rest of us figure out that you don't need a man to bless the wafers, then we absolutely will figure out you don't need a man to be the head of family, the one in control over everybody, the one obeyed, etc.
i know people genuinely miss the fellowship and communion and being together with others. humans need that togetherness--whether in the form of a baseball game, a concert, a reading group, a protest--or worship.
we have always found ways to come together, even in old bootstrapping U. S of A.
but that's the thing. we've always found a way to come together, even in individualistic bullshit bootstrapping USA. which means we have to ask why these men seem to think in this day and age the ONLY way to come together is a place that puts them and their power at center.
