The way I see it, China coronavirus admiration comes from two sources: the Do Somethings and the Opportunists.

The Do Somethings are scared and want to see actions- screw efficacy or rights.

The Opportunists have just never liked our decentralized system of government
As to the Do Somethings: It happens every time shit goes bad. Something has gone wrong, action must be taken RIGHT NOW.

In their fear, they don't care about YOUR or anyone else's rights, or the process of government. But nor do they really care for efficacy- they just want action
To put it another way, the efficacy of the solution is less important to the Do Somethings than the psychological comfort that comes from having a solution- even if its a wrong one.

This crisis is driving them crazy, because its best handled by doing nothing.
The passivity of this crisis is going to drive a lot of people crazy, because we can't go build tanks to fight the Nazis- we need to stay home instead.

But for Do Somethings, this is a special kind of hell.

Draconian, martial law lockdowns comfort them- its distinct action
Meanwhile, the Opportunists haven't liked the American federal system for years. It's too slow, too cumbersome, too captured by special interests, too decentralized, too legalistic.

This critique has merit. Where it goes off the rails is when they solve it with BE LIKE CHINA
But to them, China is this bureaucratic utopia-as was Imperial Germany or early Communist Russia

China builds infrastructure so fast, their government quickly responds to crisis, and they use the latest technology in their government(to human rights killing ends but eggs, omlets)
China is also centralized- its not like the states, where Alabama, New York, Oregon, and Montana can all have different educational policies or infrastructure plans- its inefficient, costly, and just seems to make us less of a single nation.
The ultimate dream of the Opportunists is a bureaucratic state where educated technocrats, insulated from politics and guided by the best expertise, make swift decisions in the best interests of the people.

In China, they think they've found that.
