Here’s how #wordbracket is gonna work. [THREAD]

1. By Wednesday the qualifying bouts will be over. I’ll post a blank tournament bracket that looks kinda like this, with the 64 competing words filled in.

Who can submit a bracket to the competition? How? When? READ THE NEXT TWEET
2. You can submit a #wordbracket to the official competition via an online form.
You’ll need to submit proof (screenshot, PDF etc.) that you donated the equivalent of USD $10 **OR MORE** to help people affected by the pandemic, today (April 5th) or later.

DO NOT SEND ME MONEY
3. Also, do not email me the proof of donation—upload it through the online bracket submission form (link TBA).
Any good cause that helps people survive the pandemic is OK. Medical relief, food pantries, DV shelters, snacks for hospital staff—it’s up to you. DO NOT SEND ME MONEY
4. If you can’t afford to give to a cause, you can still play along with your #wordbracket at home. I’ll post a version that you can print out or write on digitally.

The goal is to predict what the outcome of the 64 polls will be. Highest-scoring bracket wins the game.
5. Head-to-head word polls will start on Sunday the 12th, and continue until the #wordbracket Championship ends on Wednesday.

Here’s what the top 10 scorers will win:
(a) bragging rights forever
(b) I will praise you lavishly
(c) I will signal-boost your charity of choice
6. Only those who officially submit brackets (and contribute to a good cause, as decribed above, sometime this week) can win the competition.

But again, anybody can play along, unofficially, for free.

Links to the bracket and online submission form will be posted on Wednesday.
3. Here’s a great org that my werewolf friend @danjlurie is helping organize: #GetUsPPE

A donation of USD$10 to any good cause will get you entry to the #wordbracket tournament—but that’s a minimum. Many of us can do a lot more.

People who give $1 or $2 or $4 or more per match—$64, $128, $256 etc—will get a special shout-out.

Again, give to good causes, not to me
Kids can enter a #wordbracket to the official competition, if their grown-ups register (and donate) on their behalf.
Or they can play along at home for free, with the print-out brackets I will post for download.
