I tweeted once how it made me uncomfortable that first gens so openly make fun of their parents' accents. Particularly their moms. Cos of the ties to colonialism, etc. And y'all told me I'm preventing ppl from bonding over their shared experiences
Malicious intent or not, mocking African accents, syntax, slang, and mannerisms associated with Africans comes from somewhere. And that "somewhere" is colonialism and the things we've internalized as a result. Thanks for coming to my TEDx From My Couch talk
