There's a conversation to be had around religious intolerance in Nigeria. We can ignore it but it'll only fester.

It's unfortunate that Rene's video is the epicenter of today's conversation. She's a really nice person and I don't think anyone can accuse her of being a bigot
This conversation, however, is about how Nigerian Muslims enjoy the privilege of a violent reputation.

Note that it's not about all Muslims being violent. It's rather about the condoning of violence in the Muslim community.

A disturbing % of Muslims believe that violence..
...especially when directed at non-muslims is honourable.

This belief is further exacerbated by a wider population of Muslims who refuse to call them out on it.

I think the reason is that while these non-violent Muslims will not openly admit it, they revel in that violent...
reputation.

They don't need to carry a weapon because they already have a cloak of fear.

Unfortunately the result of this is further empowerment of violence among the ignorant ones.

This is why churches were shut down peacefully in Abuja, and some pastors arrested...
...and there was no violence but when the same thing was replicated in Katsina a few days later, policemen were killed.

The crux of the issue is this: Nigerian Muslims enjoy more privilege than other religious sects as regards freedom of expression.
Rene can shoot her video and share it and we'll all laugh but a baker in Ibadan has to keep her Qur'an cakes off social media because she can be killed for it.

I know certain Muslims may want to come at mthis saying there are violent sects in every religion.
That's not the conversation for today. The conversation is that you guys enable the violence in your religion
