My heart longs for the future our family planned in our rural Alberta town. The friends who have become our family, the community that has become home after our nomadic life in residency for years without a permanent address

Our future here is now uncertain for many reasons /1

Never did we imagine that, as we worked every day and many overnights, to care for our patients on this journey that we would be maligned by our government when all we asked for was fairness and support /2

Every time we leave our home to go to the hospital, we are scared

We are scared for our families and what we may be exposing them to, we are scared for our patients, we are scared for our colleagues and our friends /3

We are fighting two battles we did not anticipate, one with the scariest pandemic of our careers. The other with our own government

Both will leave a lasting impression on our soul /4
