Bezos banned ppt presentations and bullet points since 2004. I always thought that was a bit restrictive, but now I do see some of the rationale. 1/n
a) 6 page narrative forces the writer to be logical, connecting one argument to another, prioritizing them, and hopefully understanding if the validity of one presupposes the existence of another. 2/n
b) Bezos asks for reflexive defense of potential objections, how others have handled the same problem, why did/didn’t it work, and why AMZN should care. This forces a level of prior research and assumption checking on the writer that yields to better data and discussion. 3/n
c) This laborious narrative writeup may be the sln to balance between inviting criticism and analysis, and brainstorming. Both benefit creativity, but each can feel stifled without some established turntaking. 4/n
Since we are all writing more these days given WFH, this was a fantastic read on AMZN’s (and Bezos’) writing style and the rationale behind it. H/t to @joshelman for the find! 🙏 /end
