Did a quick check on the history of the Nigerian Army in combat and the record is abysmal.

Very poor record.

Peace-keeeping? Yes, some success. Combat, woeful.

Provides context for current piss poor performance in NE. They were never really good.
Biafra?

It was supposed to be a quick 'police action' against an unprepared group of rebels with scant int'l support.

100,000 Nigerian soldiers died within 4 years.

The size of present day South East where most fighting took place is not up to Kogi State. Kogi>>5 SE states.
Without the backing of the UK/USSR, unconvincing support of France for Biafra, the outcome could have been different.

The Biafran 'army' swiftly took a swathe of land, pegged back the NG army, scored legendary victories and only lost because of the politics.

Correct me.
NIGER DELTA.

Chaos in the Delta and the army was drafted in. 20 years later, the politicians have to resort to amnesties/reconcilation. There wasn't even any standing army in this case.

A rag tag group have held the country by the jugular.

Correct me.
BOKO HARAM.

10 years a war.

Correct me.
