1. A quick thread on DON'Ts:
For the most part cities & local communities are doing a good job of encouraging people to stay at home & do physical distancing. But there are some counterproductive things happening too.
2. Don’t close down parks and open spaces. Instead of cordoning them off with yellow tape, mark them up for social distancing.
3. Instead of having park crews or police chase people out (or worse) have them remind folks about social distancing. People will take this indoors. They're safer outside.
4. Stop arresting or fining people for doing the wrong thing. There were reports someone who was arrested in So-Cal for using a standup paddle-board.
5. Get construction and road maintenance crews off streets that are use for walking & cycling. I see this all the time. trucks & crews on the sidewalk or in the bike lane, making distancing much harder. Call off the construction on these streets.
6. And while we're at it, pedestrianize these high walking, cycling and exercising streets.
7. Turn sirens off our down. Traffic is down & many roads are fairly clear. Loud siren raise anxiety at a time when mental health is extremely fragile.
