Comparing England’s Three Brightest Full Back Talents | A Thread
TAA, AWB, and Reece James are three of the most promising full backs in the league , if not all of European football, below is a look at their pure stats this season as well as some explanation of what they mean
——-Defence———-
1) AWB 3.8 Tackle/90 82.6% success
2) RJ 1.9 Tackle/90 65.5% success
3) TAA 1.6 Tackle/90 53.3% success

1) AWB 2 interceptions/90
2) RJ+TAA 1.3 Interceptions/90
Quite simply this shows how Aaron Wan Bissaka is the best defensive fullback out of the three. However, the modern role of a fullback is not just to defend so here’s a look at the attacking qualities of the three
——-Attacking———

Chances Created/90

1) TAA - 2.6
2) RJ - 1.3
3) AWB - 0.7

Crosses/90

1) TAA - 7.5
2) RJ - 5.8
3) AWB - 2.86

Pass Completion

1) RJ - 87.0%
2) AWB- 79.9%
3) TAA - 75.8%

Dribbles/90 + Completion%

1) RJ - 2.3 , 79.3%
2) AWB - 1.7 , 68%
3) TAA- 0.6 , 37.4%
Attacking wise TAA comes out on top , however these numbers are slightly boosted by the fact he does take set pieces. This however, cannot discredit his 12 assists in the league this season.
What is interesting though is the myth that AWB isn’t a good attacking fullback. Out of the three he ranks second in dribbles as well as for pass completion, over the supposed best RB in the league TAA. This isn’t an attempt to slander him , but his inability to take on a man
Is a flaw in his attacking game. This connotes that he relies just just on his crossing ability to create chances. This means that as an attacking full back, he’d be quite ordinary if not for his amazing delivery. In a different system his lack of defensive ability and attacking
Prowess process could be exposed and suggests he works incredibly in a Klopp system rather than being an amazing individual talent (as a fullback).
Now let’s talk about the most well rounded fullback out of the three, Reece James. His numbers show he is very good in both going forwards and backwards as well. This is very important for a fullback. This means he has less in his overall game to work on than the other two
AWB as an attacking fullback maybe the worst of the three mentioned , however his defensive ability is unmatched by any of them. Going forward he can take on a man , however he needs to work on his final ball. This may improve next season with a proper RW in front of him though.
Overall , all three fullbacks are sensational talents and all have a shout at being the best fullback in the league within the next few years. Personally I think it’s hard to separate all three and I could not say who the best is. I hope you enjoyed this look into each of them.
This took quite a bit of time and so likes and rt’s are fully appreciated, thanks for reading x
