#Mopin is a five day long festival, which is celebrated with much vigor and gaiety by the #Galo tribe of #ArunachalPradesh. It is a harvest festival and is thought to bring wealth and prosperity to the Galo community as a whole. 1/6
People also believe that the celebration casts away evil shadows and brings in God’s blessing for an overall happiness. The primary goddess that is worshiped during this festival is “Mopin Ane”. She is as significant to the Galos, as Goddess Laxmi is to the Hindus. 2/6
People adorn themselves in their traditional white-and-black costumes and colorful ornaments. They smear rice paste or “Ette “on each other’s face, and enjoy locally brewed rice-wine known as “Apong” in “Bamboo Chongas(Bamboo Cups)”. 3/6
Since rice is the staple food of the Galo people this is considered a holy ritual that symbolizes social unity, purity and love. Women perform the elegant “Popir” dance, positioning themselves in a circular queue. 4/6
Festival culminates with the sacrifice of #Mithun, a bovine species found only in N.E India and Burma, which the Galos believe brings good fortune and a successful harvest. Variety of meals are served, made of rice which is known as Aamin which contains meat and bamboo shoot.5/6
We wish you all a very happy and prosperous #Mopin. Lets pray to Mopin Ane to shower her blessings upon us, and help us get rid of the crisis, which the entire world is reeling under.May we all come out of this victorious, strong and more compassionate towards one & other.6/6
