Once I was teaching a bunch of 2nd graders about the Brooklyn Bridge and we were talking about the Roebling family. And they got on the 'Did he die? When did he die? How did he die?' line of questions that kids often get on when talking about history.
Eventually after several Historical Figures are introduced and several Did They Die's are asked, I say 'Yes, they're all dead. Everyone who was alive in the 1850s is dead now.'
And then this 8 year old looks at me and softly says, in utter earnestness, 'except for you...'
