I am... uncomfortable w/ the way Black Americans clamor to prove something every time some dick head from else where in the Diaspora got sumn to say. They flap they gums + here we come pulling out family tree to either:
- educated them on the American South (of we’re from the South)

- prove our southern roots (if we from the North/Midwest/West Coast)

- fake claim some other colonized Black nationality
What inevitably ends up happening is:
- Southern Black folx feeling the need to prove themselves.
- Southern Black folx shitting on Northern Black folx and positioning themselves as the “real” niggers.
-Northern/Midwest/West Coast Black folx “proving” connection to the South
Here’s the thing. Nearly EVERY Black American has southern roots. And you don’t have to go back far to find them. AND we have built valid Black regional cultures in the North as well. Once again, it’s both/and, not either/or
The larger issue is this: other members of the Diaspora don’t respect Black Americans. Full stop. Your grandma being Gullah and your great great auntie being a sharecropper in Mississippi don’t mean shit to these people. They don’t know or care what that means anyway.
And there’s this really weird switch that flips. Rather than recognizing the beauty of regionalisms/the VARIOUS Black American cultures that exist, we start discounting anything above the mason dixon as diluted and inauthentic.
To be a Black American is to always, no matter where you’re from, be an amalgamation of many things. We are the product of 52+ African groups, we all have Southern roots, we all interact with Northern Black culture in some way. We can’t discount any of it.
I just woke up so idk if this made any sense, but yeah
All I’m saying is, when a bitch that ain’t even Black American got sumn to say, I’m not finna pull receipts of southern roots so they leave my Northern ass alone. A 3rd grade education + google would tell them all BAs have some connection to the South. They know, they don’t care.
And further more it doesn’t actually mean anything to them.
