1. DOJ's decision to start getting some inmates out of its federal prisons that already have COVID-19 outbreaks raging is incredibly good news.

DOJ acknowledging the crisis is big, and for each inmate getting out this could be life-saving.

2. But DOJ's decision to "prioritize" prisons that already have raging outbreaks—effectively telling all the other prisons not to release even the most vulnerable inmates yet—is a terrible mistake.
3. Limiting immediate action to prisons where there's already a raging outbreak is a PR move, not a public health move. There is no sane reason not to be doing this at every federal prison in the country.
4. These releases are being prioritized at only 3 prisons (Oakdale, Lompoc, Elkton).

As of yesterday BOP reports inmates and/or staff who've tested positive for Covid-19 at * * 29 * * prisons.
