DETROIT _ Woke to a quiet Sunday morning in a hot zone. Donned my mask & outside boots to go water Desi. Saw two men standing a foot apart talking & smoking. Went the other way. Now back home in complete silence. No music. No TV. #JustGodAndMe. I don't need an explanation ...

I just needed a moment to remind myself that I'm not in charge of the world: He is. On this Palm Sunday, just the fact that I've lived in isolation for 30 days today w/out fear, want or need is a testament to God's grace. Let's stop pretending that we know when this will end.

Instead, let's focus on how we can be better people when it is all over. This is no longer an election year. This is a pandemic year. Let's forget the foolishness and help each other survive. It's not just about toilet paper. It's about following stay-home orders & masking up.

It's about making sure everyone's all right. We are all in shock. We cannot properly mourn the dead. We cannot properly deal with the fact that people are being forced to die alone. So let's deal with what we can:

Make masks; don't buy the ones doctors need.

Shop for elderly neighbors and leave the groceries at the door.

Check on friends and family every day. Our greatest salve right now are voices on the other end of the line. Do not text me. If you care, call.

Finally, & this is important: There is no longer room for competition. President Trump (This is the first time I've written that) cannot be seen as a political candidate but as commander-in-chief. The buck stops with him.

Those around him must find a way to help him lift it.
