Philippe Coutinho. A Thread.

Once you hear his name, the majority thinks “he’s past it” due to a transfer that didn’t work out in the way he wanted it to.

Before we put an ❌ to his name, shouldn’t we see what he could bring to this Chelsea side?

1/7
Example 1:

Firstly, he can shoot from outside of the box. In the 19/20 season, Chelsea have only scored 7 goals from outside the box.

Since Lampard, can you remember a midfielder for us who will take shots from outside the box with confidence? I can’t.

Example 2:

He can actually pass! Coutinho has the awareness to look up and perform a defence cutting pass. If this was Willian / Pedro, they would’ve run to the byline, sending a hopeful ball in the box.

Coutinho assists - 8 in 15 starts
Willian assists - 6 in 21 starts

Example 3:

Someone who can score from set pieces. Did you know, Chelsea haven’t scored a Premier League freekick since Marcos Alonso in the 2017/18 season!

4/7
Example 4:

How many times did we see Hazard roam from his position? Coutinho does the same. In the video below, look where he picked the ball up from and compare that to where he finished. He gets himself into goal scoring positions. That’s what we miss.

Example 5:

He can link the play up. Not only can he produce the final pass but he has the Hazard-Esque flair about him. How many times have we seen our moves break down in the final third this season?

6/7
Conclusion:

Would I buy him? 100% yes! He brings so many attributes to the team that we are lacking right now. Also, £60 million for for a player with his experience, who knows the league, would be a great deal.
