This is an AMAZING thread that perfectly in microcosm, illustr8s the blindness (UK) society has2 race. As a society built on racial formation (class is racialised), ppl still find it difficult2c it, like the air we breathe. Worryingly, still unable2c the effects of the wind. https://twitter.com/Positivteacha/status/1246322311390793728
This is why change is so slow2 happen bc education is a state tool of citizenisation& if it has embedded within it a disavowel of race (&gender, which it does) it will continue2reproduce the very oppression we fight against (paraphrasing so many, I can't be bothered listing here)
This thread perfectly illustrates the central political role in not just fighting4 social justice but the very re-imagining of a fairer society itself. Alas, this will not be possible with practitioners unwilling2acknowledge the foundation of both their ontology& epistemology.
If we frame the system as the beast, than education (across all levels) is in the belly of the beast, as it is the principal source of validation4 the dictats of the beast. I wish more practitioners appreciated the truly radical nature of their roles&their connection to the beast
Of course the battle is largely internal within the "belly", as many will seek to protect and promote its interests, so the battle becomes an epic tug of war between liberation and assimilation. As a practitioner we are on one side or the other even if we ourselves are unaware!
So we need2desperately wake up&pick a side, those of us who are still slumbering in the land of neutrality&objectivity! Times are getting (even more) serious (on so many levels not least with our civil liberties, our personal&collective narratives and their material implications.
