kekkai sensen done! man, that was fun and wild, like a rambling coaster. it has not just one, but many plotlines & each episode (minus the finale) focuses on different characters which really amped up my enjoyment. some are better than others, but overall it's great.

SPOILERS!!
it's very reminiscent of bungou stray dogs, and i feel like it's a mix between that and the anime i recently watched, dorohedoro - with its otherworldly creatures. except broader and cooler. a great premise, with decent execution. some flaws here and there are apparent, though.
for example, the first few episodes of season 1 personally were a bit confusing. granted, i didn't know beforehand that it was supposed to be different each episode. however, the episodes that follow are more coherent one-shots, and to top it off, we get a triumphant yet +
tear-jerking ending where mary finally departs from the world, so it irks me that the start isn't as great as the finish. furthermore, some of the resolutions in said one-shots were in my opinion a bit of an asspull or were too fast. like when klaus fought that blood breed +
in the boxing ring. what happened after the owner revealed themselves to be one of the elder blood? nothing, they just went home. also, who was that reil dude that became giant after that bacteria infected him, he's apparently friends with leo? maybe his introduction was cut from
the anime but still, it's too sudden and i feel like he's better off replaced with a recurring character, so they can have a moment to shine, too. cause if there's something that kekkai sensen is good at, it's giving every main character a moment to shine. even gilbert and K.K.
alright, enough negativity. let's talk about what I love about this anime. the characters and their development is one thing, the lore and the creatures that exist in hellsalem's lot is another. the fights are action-packed and somehow remind me of kill la kill. a good thing.
my favorite one-shot episode is day in day out, purely because of how hectic and exciting it was - with steven and chain being total badasses.

story overall is good enough. it's crazy and stupidly entertaining with sad 2-episode finales for both seasons. which is why i equally enjoy seasons 1 & 2 and won't pit it with one another. alright, characters.
leonardo watch. the cranky yet hilarious tortoise knight with eyes so blue you could drown in them. he's a great MC that experiences a perfect balance of setbacks and victories, giving him room to improve and genuinely grow like an MC should. reminds me of deku 💖
zapp renfro. chaotic hospital lover. while seen as comic relief by default, he's actually a great character. sure he's cheeky and pushy, but he's a good caretaker and can solve conflicts with a reasoned mind while in a pinch, as all the other libra members do.
klaus von reinherz. the bulk gorilla-like boss. a good mentor and/or father figure to leo, with an impressive skillset in combat. i love that he's not short-fused yet explosive when angered, as shown whenever zapp tries to fight him.
chain sumeragi. the invisible headstrong werewolf chick. I LOVE HER A LOT. we only got crumbs of her in season 1, but she got more screentime in season 2. her playful nature and meme-worthy faces are gold. and when i found out she can get embarrassed easily... MUST PROTECT 😭🥰
steven starphase. the ice-wielding manager. he was forgettable at first, but after that party episode in season 2, i began to admire him and his intellect. his condescending insults are hilarious as well.
other characters i love are sonic, K.K, mary & william macbeth and that one mushroom dude that likes burgers. like i said, lots of main characters - but these five are the most entertaining bunch that helped kekkai sensen become more buoyant than it was before.
animation. bones knocked it out of the park and spent all their budget on leo's eyes and his effects, and i don't mind! but seriously, it's very fluent and captures how lively yet grim hellsalem's lot is. also when mary puts up that yellow barrier at the finale... amazing. 😢
also, michella's eyes. YES.
soundtrack? JAZZY. truly captures that new york vibe. i wonder if durarara and baccano's OSTs are like this too. the OPs are awesome and the EDs are even better. sugar song & bitter step is iconic as fuck, and i enjoyed the other 3 as well.
overall, kekkai sensen is that one crazy fever dream that you just can't seem to forget no matter what. i'd recommend highly if you want your action shows a bit heavier on the comedy scale rather than the serious scale.
