Thoughts from today’s permitted walk: 1) as with yesterday, vast majority are observing guidelines. Of those who aren’t: largest group are people with small children, in most cases where parents are visibly trying to chivvy their parents along.
I don’t doubt that some people are taking the piss, but: 3 adults in 100 are in an abusive relationship, 10 in 100 have mental health difficulties. Both groups may have cause to linger - but social distancing only requires majority to follow rules to work. And a majority are.
Here in Hackney: joggers have started to realise that the fall-off in cars means they can use the streets not the parks, easing pressure. In our estate, dog walkers have, seemingly spontaneously, left the little green bit in the centre for the kids to use.
Possible of course that people in Hackney are just a little bit better than elsewhere - maybe I did become morally superior when I moved 15 minutes down the road. But mebbe expanding park opening hours and better signage is actually the variable compared Tower Hamlets.
