I'm part of a community and a generation that does not like being told to stop having sex.
Politically so
It's been told to me/us for all the wrong reasons.
By homophobic governments.
By religious institutions.
By tox-masc dads & uncles.
Now, corona-peak time...
it makes sense.
It's a hard pill to swallow, given my community's history, but;
Hooking up with people in corona-peak time might not urgently sicken me or my hook-up..
but by 6 degrees of separation.. it will lead to suffering & death of more vulnerable people.
So I swallow this pill...
I swallow this pill & I deliver this message.
Not all people are capable of this sacrifice, this commitment.
Life is hard, sacrifice is hard, self care is hard sometimes; so is care for others. Addiction and compulsion is very hard for many.
So no shaming, no judgment of those.
Those of us who DO have agency over our own choices; if we're capable of cognitive choice, of comprehending the 6 degrees of consequences of our choices... for the sake of the thousands that will die again tomorrow (and+).
I honor the no hooking-up part of physical distancing.
And I do it with ease.
With Pride.
With memories of past epidemics, past community brilliance.
Past loss.
Past grief.
I do it with compassion, and I spread this message.
