Remember three weeks ago, when the UK government was mad at those unis who had moved online? Said they weren& #39;t following government guidance of "business as usual."
Those dying now got infected around that time.

Let& #39;s trot out a few gems from 3 weeks ago. Here is the one on universities, which has certainly not aged well:
"Universities rapped by government over coronavirus & #39;closures& #39;"
They went online because terrified students and staff made that happen. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/coronavirus-universities-gavin-williamson-schools-closed-a4387111.html?fbclid=IwAR0C0Hnf3KNr4tecXKvuEpZajQUM7-1VQiH-Ew9z5Dr9JrUHOvVTU9tYtmc">https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/c...

Schools stayed open another week. It is harder for primary school kids to exert the same pressure. But many parents were keeping kids at home already... https://www.theguardian.com/education/2020/mar/17/schools-across-england-struggle-as-coronavirus-hits-attendance?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_News_Feed&fbclid=IwAR3ESp6YZJctoBTrGO-0x94NIHdiRGZBEdTbnj7PiWq8En5147OdsrVg47Y">https://www.theguardian.com/education...
Scientists were engaged in a massive pushback against the government, who had appears to consult a limited number of voices: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/mar/15/epidemiologist-britain-herd-immunity-coronavirus-covid-19?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_News_Feed&fbclid=IwAR3R7JKB_FYALUSPgsIm7wySOOmuWcKmMCFJLgBHZ-CVeASIpycDwInkPPo">https://www.theguardian.com/commentis...
In hindsight, there will need to be much figured about about what was going on inside the government, and why they decided to ignore important evidence: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/15/coronavirus-health-experts-fear-epidemic-will-let-rip-through-uk?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_News_Feed&fbclid=IwAR15E6KGgKCkoGPoBvOzG84odx3MyoExCPMDt9hMVZ5vPGV1yxQ2MK71k_M">https://www.theguardian.com/world/202...
They finally started to listen more by the end of the week, and strategy changed. Due to the infection lag time, it will be at least a week or two until the lockdown measures start to feed into the disease lag time.

Friends in continental Europe outside of Spain and Italy started locking down around the 11th, about 10 days before schools closed in the UK and the first lockdown measures began. This followed weeks of planning that *did not happen,*, on ventilators, PPE for medical staff.
Some have speculated they are still pursuing a herd immunity strategy. Who knows? In politics we often go for the simplest explanation as incompetence. But after this is over there will need to be a serious effort to understand how this went so wrong, and a reckoning.
And hopefully that will be done with fewer typos than I have here. My excuse: looking at all of this again made me angry.
