Follow-up on Starmer's popularity - it's not just that he's more popular than Corbyn - but that's he's more popular(/less unpopular) with older voters - key demographic for Labour in "Red Wall" and ... well, everywhere.

/1
Caution: He was the *least unknown* of the Labour leadership candidates caught in the 2019 postGE @BESResearch questions ... but still way behind Corbyn/Johnson so we're not seeing a baked in profile.

/2
Here's the same breakdown with Starmer, Phillips, LongBailey, Rayner

* Starmer best liked other than Phillips (margins narrow)
* Starmer best known (particularly among older respondents by significant margin)

/3
Last set - I promise! - comparing party leader Like Profile x Age against *that for their own party*.

Corbyn significantly less liked than his party, Starmer significantly more liked than his party.

/4
More puzzling is how the likeJohnson (sorry too lazy to edit variable name!) profile matches the likeCon profile.

I'm guessing this is not evidence that he's neither an electoral asset/cost but that those costs/benefits have been factored in to how ppl feel about the party.

/5
Final chart to caveat the last set - all figures/comments on Starmer are provisional until we see how the half of the population that don't have an opinion jump.
