See that old man? He& #39;s been lying on the road across our house since morning. He is homeless. Coughing. Gave him food. But he needs medical care. Called the #corona helpline (because no one else responded). A 10-member team(yes,10!) came..
They looked at him & said he& #39;s fine. "But he& #39;s been coughing a lot" I said. "But he& #39;s not coughing now" came the reply! They gave him some medicine & started leaving. "But what about him?" we asked.
"WHAT about him? Let him be. Look, he& #39;s even got food!".
And then they all left.
This is what a #lockdown means to the poor, homeless, hungry, unfortunate people of this country. Left at the mercy of a system that has no time for them & fellow citizens who couldn& #39;t care less (not ONE of the many "proud indians" i know felt ANYTHING for tht poor man)...
Tell them to bang thalis or light diyas "for the country" & they& #39;ll jump at it. But help a poor man, or at least FEEL for him? NO. They& #39;ll look at him with suspicion instead. I guess their definition of India has no place for such people. The apathy is stunning. & heartbreaking.
P.S. A policeman came & said they& #39;ll try taking him to a shelterhome. Let& #39;s see. Will update.
