The Coronavirus crisis has revealed new forms of class difference.

- The lots of hectares/acres class

- The garden class

- The balcony/terrace class

- The plenty of space at home class

- Everyone else
I'm more than aware of my privilege as I'm a member of the balcony class (with added sea view). I give thanks for my balcony, the fresh air it offers and the tranquility of my view of the Atlantic Ocean every day.

But there's a serious point here too.
Just as:

1. Those who voted Tory and think clapping for the NHS somehow absolves them of responsibility appal me; and

2. Those who ignored the plight of the most vulnerable for a decade and now plead poverty when THEY have the problem also appal me, I'm increasingly appalled by
3. Those who have their own green space to roam in at home, those who have gardens, those who have balconies even, who sit and lecture others for the crime of... going outside. How OUTRAGEOUS.
This is the first time in history in which people with diabetes are being told to stay at home and shamed for exercising. See also: people with high blood pressure and heart problems.

But we all need fresh air and we all need to move our bodies and we all need Vitamin D.
There's a quite massive crisis with lack of Vitamin D at the best of times, let alone now. An amazing number of people diagnosed with depression are actually suffering from Vitamin D deficiency: which blood tests don't routinely test for. It's a problem all over the world.
Note: this is not me calling for people to ignore government advice or behave irresponsibly. Quite the opposite. What I'm highlighting in this thread is:

- Privilege

- Judgement

Two things which so often go hand in hand.
If you're rich, if you have private healthcare, if you have your own space in which to exercise, you are NOT in a position to lecture and condemn others who have none of those things. And so many didn't give a shit about the NHS until they became vulnerable.
Not only that, but around the world, extraordinary numbers are now:

- Cooped up in tiny airless places
- Trapped in deplorable accommodation
- Being screwed by disgusting landlords
- Stuck at home with their abusers
- Frightened of exercising WHEN THEIR HEALTH DEPENDS ON IT.
