There are a lot of people who seem to want our COVID-19 response to fail, because that would confirm their belief that SA is an unmitigated disaster.

Has the response been perfect? Absolutely not. Are there huge issues to be debated around inequality, infrastructure, a dearth of leadership in places, police violence? Yes. 100%. But we've moved faster, more decisively and with a real sense of purpose than many other nations.

The utter absence of nuance in a lot of debate in SA (probably a global issue, but I know SA best) makes me despair. Criticise, yes. Demand better, yes. But this craven, slavering excitement every time numbers spike or trends look worrying says more about you than about SA.

I can simultaneously want to rugby tackle the Transport Minister into deserved obscurity AND see that fellow cabinet ministers like Dr Mkhize are displaying incredible leadership. It's not hard to stretch your brain beyond "either/or".

Also, ROFL at the people who don't read the thread and then tell me why criticism matters. Thanks, petal, what would I do without your inability to engage with nuance?
