Anytime anyone tries to downplay the corona virus as not as bad as other plagues or say it doesn’t kill as many people as x thing: they’re taking about lives, human lives, that could have been saved. It’s a NEW threat, and we could have stopped it in its tracks.
Our government could have been prepared, it could have taken it seriously when they knew it was coming, they could have warned us about what was going to happen and to prepare well before it did. But it didn’t. Our government failed us, and those deaths that aren’t “that bad?”
Consider how many hundreds or thousands could have been saved if our government did what it is supposed to do. Hell, think about the fact that our government could have saved a single life by acting with prudent caution and thoughtfulness, but didn’t. Out of hubris and neglect.
Think about how if we’d been serious early we could be helping the rest of the world stop the dying now. The shinning city on the hill indeed. Think about all that when they tell you it’s not so bad that how many ever people died and pat themselves on the back.
These people are weak and small. Cowardliness and greed and selfishness are the the dominions of the worst, pathetic creatures. Because they’re easy and filled with instant gratification. Empathy and thoughtfulness and compassion are hard and scary, and they take true strength.
Personally, I’d rather have leaders who take the hard, brave route. At least I’d know they wouldnt cast me out or leave me behind if it meant they could get theirs.
