why the concept of bi/pan lesbians is very bad for all communities involved: a thread
disclaimer: you can use this thread in discourse, but if it’s being used in a heated debate don’t expect me to join in
LESBIAN ≠ SAPPHIC

first, it insinuates that lesbians have the capacity to be attracted to men. we do not. i have seen countless “bi lesbians” say that lesbian has always been a blanket term for any woman attracted to women. lesbians CANNOT, and NEVER WILL like men. 1/6
i’ve also seen people say that bi lesbians are attracted to women and nonbinary people. they say this almost like they’re being accepting towards nonbinary sapphics, but it completely others us. it insinuates that we can’t be lesbians, that we aren’t lesbians. 2/6
lesbians can be attracted to women aligned nonbinary people.

women aligned nonbinary people can be lesbians.

the notion that you have to be a “bi lesbian” to be attracted to nonbinary people is harmful.

then, it brings up the question: what is their explanation for pan lesbians?? i have no clue. but the definition of pansexual is attraction Regardless Of Gender, so i have no idea how that makes sense to Anyone.

i won’t talk much about the bi/pan side of it because i’m a lesbian, but i’ve seen countless bi people say that it reinforces the idea that bi people have to pick a side. it’s OK if you have a preference for women!! you don’t need to add lesbian to your identity!!

bi sapphics can be 90% attracted to women and STILL BE BI!!! but you CANNOT be a lesbian if you are attracted to men and actively act on that attraction/wish to act on it.
