Just FYI, most institutions right now are trying to do online learning with hardly any money invested into the design of courses, and a very small, overwhelmed number of staff. There is nothing big or expensive about it...
Its not "elitist" to say "hey, people have done this before and they did some research and maybe we can learn from what they published" just because there are obvious problems with the whole system of research publication...
A LOT of people I am talking to on a daily basis are new to this, and therefore don't have the luxury of years of experimentation to just know what is right, so they are looking for answers.
Their students are afraid of the chaos and crazy that is the world today, and they really don't want to have to deal with more of it in class. I wish I could just tell them to go and do what their gut tells them, but again... they haven't had years or decades to experiment.
Sorry that some of us plebians are stuck in institutions that are obviously not rad enough for the cool kids to consider the constraints we have to meet, the rules and laws we have to follow to try and not not leave anyone behind (even though those are imperfect as well)...
Yes, I know there are a few people out there that get to spend boatloads of money on their courses. These are the EXCEPTIONS, not the reality most of us face. So drop the BS about expensive online courses that most of us will never get to work on....
And yes, we all know many of those expensive classes are mediocre at best, and often not good at all. That is because they ignore research, not because they embrace it.
