for #wlwbnha day 5 — soulmate/villain au

au where toga goes to UA before she become a villain and meets her soulmate, uraraka .

it doesn’t change the paths they are destined to walk but it makes things stickier.
They meet the first year of high school, walking in the same direction to and from home together.

Toga’s quirk is deemed too dangerous to utilize in battle, could go wrong too quickly and so she’s shoved in general studies. She doesn’t mind, even if she IS disappointed.
The two of them don’t talk at first, just walk a few feet away from each other.

And then one day, it’s pouring outside.

Toga doesn’t have an umbrella but Ochako does and the bubbly brunette is reaching back, offering to share.
When their fingers brush over the handle, playfully fighting about who should hold it, the world explodes in color.

They fall over together, the rush being too much and even with bloody, scraped knees, they’re giggling together.
Things are good for awhile, they share lunch together on the roof, walk each other to class and hold hands walking home.

They’re too good.

Because Ochako gets closer to some boy in class and starts insisting that they’re “platonic” soulmates.
But they’ve already fucking kissed, already fallen asleep in each other’s arms — Toga’s already in love.

It doesn’t matter, because Uraraka’s already pulling away and there’s nothing she can do about it.
Himiko is betrayed, gutted, starts walking a different way to school and completely avoids the other girl.

She feels stupid for thinking someone like that could be in love with her. Feels stupid for thinking she could have a normal life in this world.
Toga’s watching the news, home alone again, and sees the first headlines for the Hero Killer Stain.

She falls down the rabbit hole.

Killing heroes for being so weak but on top still? For the praise they get?

Yeah, that’s starting to sound pretty fucking good.
The next day in school she packs up all the shit in her desk, telling everyone she’s just gonna go home and organize it all.

Ochako is outside her classroom that day. Biting her lip nervously, picking at the chipped paint on the doorway.
“Uh, hey..”

Toga walks past her quickly but she, of course, is running to catch up.

“Himiko! Hey!”

She doesn’t reply but it doesn’t matter, because Ochako’s just talking away anyway.

“I haven’t seen you around lately, I just wanted to know if you’re okay..”
Himiko tries to stop herself from laughing but she can’t, “if I can help it, you’ll never see me again.”

And despite Uraraka following her all the way home, despite her cries of being confused and scared she doesn’t stop to talk it out.

Maybe she should’ve.
Because now, staring at her soulmate from the other side of the battlefield something in her heart feels like it’s corroded over.

Because Ochako is standing tall with her classmates but her lower lip is wobbling and she won’t look away from Toga.
Dabi, beside her, elbows her sharply in the side and points to the pretty, devastated brunette, “you know her?”

“That’s my soulmate.”

“Eugh... tough shit,” the lanky bastard is scrunching up his nose and shoving his hands in his pockets.

Yeah. Tough shit.
Because even on this side, she’s lost people she’s loved and respected. There’s no winner here, no team without casualties or heartbreak.

And she’s looking at the only girl who may have only loved her back — and she has to try to kill her.
She wonders if the world will go back to black and white afterwards. She wonders if she’ll die too.

A little later, in the heat of battle, Uraraka will face her head on. And she’ll be sobbing while firing an attack.
“Please,” she’ll cry, trying to dodge out of Himiko’s way, “just come back.”

“I can’t, even if I wanted to! They’d kill me.” Toga growls, stabbing into the ground right beside the other’s head, she can’t do it.

“Then take me with you.”
Before she can question it, she’s being pulled into a kiss, “please Himiko,” she breathes into it, “being away from you, is torture.”

But Shigaraki will never allow her to come with them, rather kill her than have that. Toga, she can’t do it, can’t be that selfish.
“No,” and she’s crying now too, “you have to stay with them.”

She’s ripped away from Ochako by none other than Deku himself and he lands a punch before she has the chance to react.
So she lays there, and let’s them think they’ve won. Dabi throws her over his shoulder as they’re leaving and he doesn’t comment when she starts crying.

Ochako belongs with them, belongs in the daylight.

She’ll take the night shift.
