Two observations I don’t know what to make of yet:
(1) people seem quite confident that “de-globalization is coming” (whatever that means). I see this take everywhere.
(2) the biggest proponents of globalisation are biggest users/beneficiaries of it, yet they don’t seem to know

I have also struggled to find a coherent definition of “globalism” or “globalist” ... sounds about as put together as “blame the bankers”, “blame the Jews”, “blame the coloreds”, “blame the Asians”, “blame the brown terrorists”
YOU: I HATE GLOBALIZATION IT IS THE ROOT OF EVIL
Also, you: I love my beers from Bavaria, my everyday low prices from Walmart, my illegals doing my backbreaking labor, my clothes from ?, video games from Asia..

You: de globalization means we have to make sacrifices... like stop shopping at Walmart and start shopping at Trader Joe’s...
Me: who owns Trader Joe’s ?

The answer to supply chain concentration risk is... to increase supply chain concentration risk. Very well thought through: https://twitter.com/ahabvalue/status/1246665211911831553?s=21 https://twitter.com/ahabvalue/status/1246665211911831553
Kinda what i mean. People are mad and do what they do historically: Find a convenient scapegoat. They will conflate corporatism , suspect transfer pricing policies, and labor vs capital structural issues with all encompassing “globalism is evil” https://twitter.com/bretonwes/status/1246665842294693888?s=21 https://twitter.com/bretonwes/status/1246665842294693888
And also careful what you wish for: what % of revenues and earnings from S&P 500 come from outside the USA ? Do you think the “it’s my neighbor’s fault for all my problems” comes without consequences ? People are not thinking straight instead resorting to primal anger and hate.
Some very specific policy ideas aside, most of the anti globalism seems basically the following:
Soros = globalist
Soros = evil
Therefore, globalism = evil
Soros = globalist
Soros = evil
Therefore, globalism = evil
I’m also old enough to remember that it was PROGRESS for a country to diversify its economy out of “low value , manufacturing” to “higher value add service based” economy ... lol so are you saying you want Americans to do more back breaking, lower paid work?
