#Sheith a/b/o au where Keith is a single omega dad and Shiro is the good looking alpha preschool teacher. Keith's daughter is very attached to her teacher and thinks he'd make a very good papa, much to Keith's embarrassment and silent agreement.
---
"Have everything?"

"Mm."

Keith slipped on the little rain coat over his daughters little overalls, a hat in the same yellow colour plopped on her head. "Get your boots on while I get Kosmo."

The little girl nodded once, sitting down to pull on her rain boots with all the
concentration of a five year old. Maya was a small little thing. Barely coming up to Keith's hip and easily bowled over by the strongest wind. Despite her small stature she was just as stubborn as her dad and used every opportunity to prove it. Once the small girl set her mind
on something, she did whatever she could to achieve it.

"Alright, let's go." Keith said, Kosmos' leash in hand. The large wolf-hybrid barked happily, tail wagging fiercely as he poked a cold snout into Maya's face.

She puffed out her cheeks, ducking away from the wet nose
but patting Kosmos' face as compensation. She then stood and held her hand out to Keith with an impassive expression demanding her dad's hand.

Maya, though young, was a very mellow child. She didn't speak much nor did she express herself like other kids. At her previous
preschool this caused a rift between her and the other kids. The parents would often gossip about her, saying things like it being Keith's fault for having such an odd daughter. They were quick to judge Keith and his daughter just because they were different. Just because Keith
was a single parent and Maya was too quiet for their tastes. After a certain event Keith eventually ended up transferring Maya to a different preschool. And honestly that might've been the second best decision he's ever made.
The trip to the preschool was quick and painless, Maya swinging the hand holding both hers while also holding Kosmos' leash. With his other hand Keith held up an umbrella, shielding both him and Maya while Kosmo happily trotted around in the rain.

He walked to the entrance of
the building, the awning of the roof providing temporary shelter. Maya let go of Keith's hand and watched him order Kosmo to sit and stay. Then he was giving Kosmo the end of his leash to hold in his mouth before shaking off his umbrella, closing it, and heading inside.
Maya stuck close to Keith as he signed her in, big eyes darting around beneath the fringe of her bangs. When a familiar scent trickled into the room, she was sprinting from Keith's side and directly into the leg of her teacher.

"Oh!" Came the surprised sound as the person took
the impact of a little kid in stride. "If it isn't Maya! You're early today."

Keith glanced over and bit back a small groan. Of course Keith couldn't escape without running into him this early in the day.

Takashi Shirogane was a preschool teacher that, despite being an Alpha,
was sweeter than a puppy. He adored kids and was exceptional at his job. Many found comfort in his tall bulky form and warm scent. Keith, sadly, was just as weak to it.

Shiro's eyes moved from Maya hugging his leg up to Keith's, his smile brightening and sending Keith's heart
a flutter. "Mr. Kogane, nice to see you."

Keith grunted, cheeks flushing as he hunched his shoulders. "I told you to call me Keith. Mr. Kogane makes me sound old."

Shiro laughed at that but said nothing further. Instead he crouched down to Maya's level and patted her head.
"Why don't you go set your stuff in your cubby? I want to talk to your dad for a second."

Maya pursed her lips before nodding, letting go of Shiro's legs and making a move to head down the hall. However she stopped, turning around and rushing to Keith's side before raising her
arms. "Dad. Hug." Came the small demand.

Keith, weak to his daughter, bent down and picked her up. The two shared a hug and a kiss to the cheek, Keith rubbing his scent against her. The little girl hummed at the contact and enthusiastically returned the nuzzling. Then Keith was
putting her down and saying farewell. "Grandma will be here to pick you up today, ok?"

Maya nodded, standing on the tips of her toes to put another kiss on Keith's cheek. She then waved and turned, jogging into the hall that'd lead to the classrooms.

Keith smiled and stood,
violet eyes glancing to Shiro. "So what it is you wanted to talk to me about?"

"Ah, well I wanted to ask if Maya has mentioned the field trip to the zoo yet? We need a few extra chaperones and wanted to know if some of the parents would be able to accompany their kids."
That caused Keith to frown, "She hasn't mentioned anything." He'll have to talk to her about it when they were home. "When is it?"

"This weekend at 3. If you can't come, that's fine! I'm sure we can handle it." Shiro was quick to assure with his signature smile.
Keith contemplated his response for a moment before asking almost hesitantly, "Are you going to be one of the chaperones?"

"Yep! Me and one other teacher along with three parents. But we could always use more hands!"

Keith doesn't know why he said it. Maybe it was a spur of the
moment and he was feeling spontaneous. Or maybe he just wanted to spend one day with his daughter and her totally not attractive teacher. Either way before Keith even registered what he was saying, a "sure" was already leaving his lips.
And that was how Keith found himself here at the zoo. He had to call in a few favours at the cafe he worked at but thankfully the owner, Hunk, was beyond understanding despite the short notice.

So now Keith was helping keep an eye on a gaggle of kids while also holding on to
his own kid.

"Having fun?" Shiro asked, moving to stand beside Keith at the monkey enclosure.

"It's tiring. I don't get how you can do this every day." Keith grinned despite his complaint. Truly he'd been spoiled by how well-behaved Maya was.

Shiro barked a laugh and
shrugged as he leaned against the railing. "It's not so bad. You get used to it. Plus nap time is always a good reprieve."

Now it was Keith's turn to laugh at that. "I'd bet."

Their little conversation was interrupted by Maya, the girl rushing to Keith's side and pulling on his
shirt. "Dad. The hippos."

"Mm?" Keith glanced up to see that the group was indeed beginning to move along towards the hippo enclosure. He flashed Maya an excited grin and held out a hand for her to take. "Then let's not get left behind, alright?"

She nodded quickly before
blinking her large eyes at Shiro and sticking out her other hand towards him. "Not left behind." She repeated with another firm nod.

Before Keith could say something, who knows what, Maya's small hand was being taken by Shiro. He flashed her his brilliant smile before turning it
on Keith and stealing the Omega's breath away.

"She's right. Let's not get left behind." Shiro said warmly.

Keith's throat ran dry and he had to clear his throat, hoping his words didn't come out as garbled as they felt. "Yeah. Of course. Let's go."
---
M'kay I'm gonna leave it there for tonight :>
Oh wow I didn't expect such a turnout! I'm glad you're liking it so far!
---

Maya looked all too smug as she swung both Keith and Shiro's hands, humming happily. Then she was looking up at Shiro and tugging to get his attention.

"Dad likes hippos." Was the first thing she said.
"Oh?" Shiro's smile, which seemed like a permanent fixture on the guy's face, turned from Maya up to Keith. "Hippos are a very nice animal to like."

Keith's cheeks grew hot in embarrassment, his lip twisting into a pout. He could help adding on a little defensively, "They're
cute."

"Dad watches them sleep." Maya added, eyes shining with eagerness.

"Documentaries! I watch documentaries and they often show the hippos sleeping." Not that Keith goes looking up videos of hippos in his spare time. Ok he might but who cares? People look up cat videos!
Maya nodded at Keith's addition before looking back up at Shiro and saying, "Dad has a hippo. It's Dumbo."

Now Keith's face was flushed a dark red and when Shiro sent him an amused look he wanted to crawl into a hole and die. Or maybe one of the animal pens. Maybe the Lions.
"A hippo named Dumbo?"

Scrambling to explain, Keith made a half-aborted flailing gesture with his free hand. "I-it was something my mom got me when Maya was born. When she was three Maya decided it needed a name."

Shiro nodded like this was a normal conversation to have. "So
Dumbo?"

Keith finally let out a small chuckle and shrugged helplessly. "She really liked the movie. Still doesn't quite get the difference between Elephants and Hippos though."

Shiro made an "ah" sound before smiling brightly at an expectant looking Maya. "Well I hope you'll
bring Dumbo for show and tell one of these days. I'd very much like to meet him."

"Dumbo's a girl!"

"Oh, I'm sorry! I'd like to meet /her then." Shiro said, rolling with it.

Maya seemed satisfied with the correction, turning to look up at Keith. "Can I bring her?"

He hummed,
pretending to give it some thought even though he already knew he'd say yes. And from the bland look his own child was giving him, she knew what the answer was too.

"Alright. But only if you behave for the field trip." Which was a given. But Keith had to at least pretend he
wasn't wrapped around his little girl's finger.

Soon they were at the Hippo enclosure and Keith struggled to not press his face up against the glass like many of the other kids. He was an adult for Gods sake. Adults don't do that.

"Shiro, got a minute?" Matthew Holt, one of
the other preschool teachers, called Shiro over with a wave of his hand.

"Yeah I'll be right there." He let go of Maya's hand, patting her head for a moment and telling the both of them, "I'll be right back." And leaving the two alone.

Large violet eyes turned up to stare at
ones so similar. Keith quirked a brow, "Mind explaining what that was? You don't usually talk so much."

"I like Shiro."

"Yeah, I've noticed." Was this what the other parents talked about? The dreaded first crush? Well at least his daughter had good taste. "Though I don't think
you've got a chance."

Maya's brows furrowed like she couldn't fathom what Keith was saying. Then she tilted her head and said oh so innocently, "No. Dad does."
---
Oops sorry leaving it here to go eat and work a bit. I'll return eventually!
I didn't mean to leave the thread for so long, so sorry about that! Let's get back into it!
---
Keith choked on his spit, sputtering and giving his daughter a pointed stare. "Excuse me?"

He did not like the look his daughter was giving him. He especially didn't like it when she
said, "Grandma says you have a chance."

"A chance at what?!"

Maya shrugged, brows furrowing as she looked up at Keith. "I don't know. She just says so."

Keith pinched the bridge of his nose and exhaled. Ok clearly he was going to need to have a chat with his mom. She was
feeding his daughter weird phrases again.

The Omega crouched down so he could be eye level with his daughter. He reached out and playfully tugged on one of her black pigtails. "Well Grandma is weird. Don't trust everything she says."

Maya blinked before she nodded, trusting
Keith's words. "Ok."

"And no telling Shiro about me having a chance, got it?"

"A chance at what?"

Keith nearly jumped out of his skin, barely managing to switch his curse into a garbled "Fuu-dge!"

He looked over his shoulder, eyes landing on a pair of long legs. He followed
them up and up till finally he made eye contact with a visibly amused Shiro. He was standing close to Keith and looking down at the two of them, hands on his hips.

"D-don't you know it's rude to eavesdrop?" Keith quickly said as he tried to recover. Based on Shiro's chuckle
he probably failed that.

"Sorry, didn't mean to listen. But you two were being so secretive."

Maya moved to Shiro and said quite proudly, "Dad said not to tell you!"

"Oh? Family secret?" Shiro gave a nod of understanding and glanced at Keith as the other stood. "Then I
promise I won't ask about it."

"But Grandma can tell you!"

Two pair of eyes snapped down to look at Maya. She was flashing Shiro a small, shy smile. "Dad said I can't. But Grandma can. Dad can't tell her what to do."
Keith did the only thing he could think of in that moment. He scooped up his daughter and nuzzled into her face. "Someone's very chatty today! Did someone slip you some sugar when I wasn't looking?"

Maya whined, puffing up her cheeks and wriggling in Keith's hold. She kicked
her little shoes, pouting when that did nothing. She begrudgingly allowed Keith to tuck her into his side. Though she showed her protest by tugging at his ponytail in annoyance. Not hard though, she didn't want to hurt her dad.

"Let's go, the group's moving on." Keith gestured
to where their group was indeed moving on. Thankfully Shiro rolled with Keith's topic change just as well as he did with the kids.

However because Keith was carrying Maya, he assumed Shiro would go off to interact with the other kids or maybe the other adults. But no, he seemed
content to just stay by Keith's side near the back of the group.

"So," The Alpha spoke, catching Keith's attention. "How's work treating you?"

"Fine. Hunk's honestly too good of a boss. He makes it feel like I'm not working. Well when annoying customers aren't around, that is."
With a laugh Shiro said, "That's good at least. I keep meaning to stop by, but whenever I'm there I can never seem to catch you."

"Well then you really mustn't go there often because I'm working as many hours as I can." Keith bounced Maya a bit and gestured his head towards her.
"Lots of expenses making sure she stays healthy. And there's only so much my mom can help with."

"Ah." Shiro was quiet for a moment before he glanced at Keith curiously. Sadly the Omega seemed to miss the look. "Maya's other parent really isn't in the picture...?"
That got Keith's attention. Sharp eyes glanced at the man beside him. "Yeah, he isn't." Keith said, tone almost guarded. "Pretty sure I mentioned that when I signed her up for the school."

"I try not to snoop through the files for anything other than necessary info."
Shiro said for an explanation.

Right. Made sense.

Keith huffed and bit his lip, looking down at Maya who was watching him with those large innocent eyes of hers. Keith hesitated before setting her on the ground and nudging her back. "Go join the group, pumpkin."
Maya was visibly reluctant, but in the end she nodded and shuffled over to watch the animals with the other kids.

Keith watched her go with his arms crossed over his chest. "Maya's other parent... He hasn't been in the picture since conceivement."
He stopped when a hand fell to his shoulder. Shiro was staring at him rather intensely. The scent he was giving off was comforting and worked quickly in easing Keith's growing nerves.

"Keith," Shiro spoke, voice firm. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to."
Keith cracked a smile at that. Trust Shiro to put Keith's comfort before his own curiosity. But... Maybe Keith wanted to talk about it. He wasn't ashamed of how Maya came to be. And Hell, maybe a small part of himself wanted to put it out there that he was /very single.
"I was a freshman in college. I was at a dumb party. My first one ever. It was my dorm mate that managed to convince me to go." Keith cracked a grin at that. For as annoyance as Lance was, Keith's glad to have roomed with the other Omega.

"I was pretty tipsy and when this Alpha
dropped some hints, I thought 'why not'. Shocking how all it took was one night. Not saying it was just one round but... Ya know." Keith shoved his hands in his pockets and scuffed his boot against the stone floor. "He wanted it to be a one-time thing and I was fine with that.
Month later I found out I was pregnant with Maya."

Shiro was silent for a long while as he processed the information. "So you never told him?"

"No. Didn't want him to feel obligated. Besides I was fine handling it on my own. So I did. Mostly. My mom helped a lot. And my dorm
mate. It's thanks to them I landed on my feet."

"I see. And hypothetically speaking if he was ever to enter the picture again..."

"I'd slam the door right on his face." Keith sent Shiro an amused smile, "It was a one night stand. He gets no say in my daughter's life. Ever."
