OK, @JesseBWatters this doc on your show doesn’t seem aligned w/ the research & isn’t doing a great job of explaining truth about how research is translated into evidence-based practice. We have numerous trials & evidence both controlled studies and huge anecdotal evidence pools
Yes, we must make sure benefit is greater than risk. Absolutely. But this drug has been @US_FDA approved & in use since 1955 for other conditions. Yes, there are serious side effects but what is more serious than death? Additionally he failed to mention the millions of people...
...benefitting from this drug w/ side effects less impactful than their chronic condition. He also failed to mention, that the anecdotal evidence & controlled studies ALL have a near 100% cure rate and ONLY 20 doses or less are required to retract illness.
He may have forgot to mention multiple controlled studies showed the virus simply cannot attach to human DNA in the presence of quinine & it dies off. That’s why people already on it for other conditions aren’t contracting #COVID19 like @realDonaldTrump correctly mentioned today.
I’m sure he’s a fine physician, but he seemed to be leading people astray a bit. The drug has been is use since 1955 in spite of the chance if some serious side effects. All drugs, including Tyelenol have potential for serious side effects w/ long-term or high dose use.
Here are just a few of the controlled studies—many more have been completed since I compiled this thread. https://twitter.com/americantrue7/status/1244818521135050752?s=21 https://twitter.com/americantrue7/status/1244818521135050752
As an RN, I believe any doctor caring for someone with #Covid19 who is decompensating will use this HCQ & zithromax combo if there are no serious contraindications for that specific pt. Remember, risk vs. benefit and if the risk is death there’s a heavily weighted benefit to HCQ.
