here’s a thread on how i maintain my curly hair; it truthfully took me 23 years to get here with it and i still learn more about taking care of my curls occasionally!
- i shower everyday but i only wash my hair at most twice a week, and i usually mainly focus on the roots when i do that
- i do condition every time i shower and try to focus more on the ends and when i do wash it out i leave in a tiny bit (don’t completely wash it all out)
- when it comes to brushing my hair i don’t use an actual brush i use my fingers to detangle my curls while there’s still conditioner in it during my shower
- i do also leave the conditioner in for a bit while i do other things like wash myself, shave etc.
- when im done showering i gently squeeze out some of the excess water and then wrap my hair in a microfibre towel after (this prevents a lot of frizz)
- after about five to ten minutes i take my hair out as i like to let it air dry
- i rub castor oil into my roots only for a bit (this has immensely helped with my hair growth process)
- i also use a bit of leave in conditioner called ‘garnier fructis style curl treat smoothie’ i put a bit on my fingers and add it in while detangling my curls
- after i’m done with that i do just let my hair air dry to prevent any other added frizz since heat isn’t good for curls either
- once my hair is completely dry i do go through it once more with my finger to separate some of the curls and add some volume to my hair
extra tips:

- stay away from heat, hair straighteners, blow dryers, curlers as well as dying too frequently
- never brush your hair while it’s dry
- if your ends look dry/brittle and are splitting i’d get a hair trim
- use cooler water on your hair when showering, not hot
- don’t rub your hair dry with a towel that causes so much frizziness
- when trying to protect your curls while sleeping i reccommend either braiding your hair or doing the pineapple technique (loosely putting your hair in a ponytail basically on top of your hair)
i hope this thread can at least help one person! 😭💗
