I've said it before, I'll say it again. Corporate bureaucracies can't organise space exploration. Big state bureaucracies could because they were willing to put up with weirdos 1/ https://www.theregister.co.uk/2020/04/03/spacex_starship_crumple/
the Silicon valleys think they're weirdo mavericks but they're flattering themselves. No. They're really bland & corporate & it takes a literal mad scientist to do this stuff. I was thinking of writing a movie script about the space race 2/
the Russians who started it all were biocosmic immortalists who want to achieve eternal life or even bring back all the dead oppressed peasants & proletarians (& therefore needed Mars, etc, to put them all on...) 3/
Stalin killed most but one ended up the chief engineer in the gulag they sent him to & played around with rockets in his spare time; when Khruschev found out he thought "gee, that would be a brilliant PR stunt, lets launch someone into space." 4/
so the US had to respond. Who did they get to set up the NASA jet propulsion lab to make the rocket engines? Jack Parsons, a Theleman disciple of Aleister Crowley who's wife's sister would organise orgies to invoke spirits to give him ideas for designing rocket ships 5/
(Eventually she abandoned him & ran off with L. Ron Hubbard, and NASA fired him when they found out he was also an anarchist, & he became a special effects guy for Hollywood and blew himself up.) Wouldn't that be a good movie, to parallel the weirdos on both sides? 6/
anyway, these guys actually DID get into outer space & eventually the moon. Can we imagine a guy who wants to raise the dead & a Crowleyan sorcerer getting hired by some corporation, no matter how "visionary" now? 7/
