look, i love makoto niijima

but she's objectively the worst written member of the phantom thieves

I'm 100% serious on this, as someone who loves makoto, haru, and goro equally.

makoto is the worst written character in the entire cast

i have seen people call makoto a watered down mitsuru who was created to be pallative to cishet male gamers

and honestly that's not far from the truth

when you take her at face value, she's *bland*

the entire lead up and introduction of her into the main plot is weak. it has no emotional throughline

(putting this thread on slight pause bc it's getting late and I've had too much to drink, and also bc I'm literally going to meet ohya so haven't gotten up to re experiencing makoto's awakening yet)
