/5 There is a lot of chatter about online labs, simulations etc. Some things to consider. Free stuff is free. Probably not shiny, but solid. May be dated though. May require one of those things from the past (Flash?). So, just be sure you can play it. #onlinepivot
/5 The paid stuff? Some of them are great. Others less. Questions to ask: tech requirements? mobile friendly? support days/hours? Wifi requirements? With students sitting at home & the digital divide, you need something everybody can access & get support for. #onlinepivot
/5 Ask for demo links. Go and play them at home (with your maybe less than superfast wifi). Check it works with PCs and Macs. Consider taking notes/screenshots along the way for your fellow instructors. Think about plan B if something fails. #onlinepivot
/5 So it works, you can play it, and you have a plan B. Then, and only then, adopt a technology to substitute for an onsite lab. While no virtual lab can substitute for hands-on, it is better to use low/no tech alternatives...
/5 ...than torment your students with something that does not work. Or only works for some. Or it requires lots of support from a helpdesk. Stressed students do not learn. Please be kind. They will appreciate it. Thank you.
