#PalmSunday 1/6
Today we remember a crowd.. separately.
Today we remember a pilgrimage.. when we cannot go anywhere.
Today we remember a celebration.. when we are mourning.
Today we remember shouts of praise from hearts high with hope.. when we wrestle with silence & despair.
2/6 But in the midst of that #PalmSunday #celebration Jesus was already carrying #GoodFriday in his heart. He came to praise through #pain, come to noise through #silence, come to crowds through #aloneness: Jesus of the 40 desert days & nights alone, learning who he was & was not
3/6 & so, the #PalmSunday crowd do not change him. He carries the silence of the desert in his heart, so quiet the #whispers of #God can be heard above the clamour of the #crowd because he has learned what to #listen for in the quiet & can now hear it even in the noise.
4/6 Jesus, before he enters Jerusalem to shouts of praise, weeps over her. He sees her coming #desolation rather than her glories: sees through the pageantry to the pain. His eyes are different. Once we emerge from our isolation, so will ours be. We'll have a point of comparison.
5/6 When this ends, we get to choose how we respond, but the choosing starts now. Right now we are travelling without moving - travelling into a #desert in our own homes, where we'll be #shaken & our 'normal' stripped away. When we emerge we'll see our world with greater clarity.
6/6 we can carry the #silence of our #desert within us, can #learn more of who we are & are not, can have ears tuned to the whispers of God, can chose what to participate in & what to put down... But only if we start that journey with God now. Here. In the #desert, not the crowd.
