Why do some people die from #coronavirus/ #COVID19, while others show no symptoms? Why did I end up critical in the ICU, while my husband had medium-level flu symptoms for a week?

It might not be just about age and health conditions; there could be a genetic influence as well. (Thanks to @larry_falbe for the interesting article.)

Suddenly getting lots of queries about my health (from folks not familiar with my story). I’m 44, not overweight, no smoking, no drugs, hardly any drinking. No health conditions except exercise-induced asthma, which I manage with an inhaler.
The exercise-induced asthma didn’t stop me from competing the NY Marathon twice - slowly, but I did it - or going to HIIT classes at least three times a week. BP almost always 120/80. All bloodwork at my annual physicals in normal range.
Another factor (thanks to the folks who shared with me): viral load. You can get more or less exposure to a virus, and more exposure can cause more harm. It& #39;s not just binary, exposed/not exposed.

Expanding on my thread from yesterday on differences in #coronavirus symptoms/severity, which seems to have resonated.
Re: my last tweet in the thread, I think the better term - the term used in the @nytimes article itself - would be "viral dose."

There are also interesting issues re: initial exposure. Please read the underlying piece, since I always worry (as a layperson) about summarizing scientific research incorrectly. Again, the article is here: https://nyti.ms/3dXGUWi

Several folks raised the issue of #coronavirus and #bloodtype. Here is a @Forbes piece summarizing research suggesting that "blood group A had a significantly higher risk for [contracting] #COVID19 compared with non-A blood groups." https://bit.ly/2UWwkpS ">https://bit.ly/2UWwkpS&q...
And here is a @USAToday piece offering some caveats about the research into #coronavirus/ #COVID19 and #bloodtype (preliminary research, not yet peer-reviewed, larger sample size would be better): https://bit.ly/2RaUCvk ">https://bit.ly/2RaUCvk&q...
I& #39;m not a doctor or scientist, so I don& #39;t take a position on these issues. (I stay in my lane, which is #legal/ #Biglaw/ #SCOTUS/ #appellatetwitter.) But I& #39;m happy to flag interesting issues re: #coronavirus/ #COVID19 and share info from more knowledgeable folks.
