Need some reasons not to randomly force your doc to prescribe a drug because an orange moron told you to? 1) It's not been shown to work clinically, so, you're putting random shit in your body, and don't even get drunk or stoned. The study they refer to was too small to account
for if the subjects just fought through the virus themselves or not. Anecdotal cases have the same problem. 2) You know on those drug commercials where they talk really fast about side effects? Yep. This one has 'em, too. So, you take this drug that 'cures' Corona, and suddenly-
You're dizzy and puking and rashy... You start having heart palpitations, and muscle weakness... Huh. That SOUNDS like worsening coronavirus! "Oh no! I'm sick with Coronavirus! I better go see my doctor IMMEDIATELY!" You run to your doctor, urgent care, or ER, which are
uses. Lupus and arthritis patients rely on that drug. Suddenly creating scarcity because the stable genius helps make even MORE people sick! Oh yeah, and it's a literal life saving drug for Malaria patients.
EXCEPT! Some doctors are prescribing it. They're doctors. They, in theory, know the risks, and are making the call that the risk is worth the potential benefit. They make that assessment based on YOUR PERSONAL HEALTH. Your age, fitness, history, and current condition all matter.
BUT! Doctors are insanely over-burdened and if you show up and act like an asshole demanding this drug while there's people dying on the floor of the hallway and writing you that script gets you out the door, I'd bet they'd do that, too.
So it comes back to YOU. I'm not a doctor. I'm not YOUR doctor. I'm immunocompromised and have a lot of medical conditions that require medication to keep me alive. When I see people randomly deciding to gobble down drugs used to treat others like me it scares the fuck out of me.
Tomorrow he can decide that Humalog insulin is the cure, and then we have insulin shortages and I am amongst the millions that will kill. And yes, it is that random because there is no method to the madness. So stop yourself and think before jumping on another presidential whim.
