In terms of being a profitable business, Liverpool FC are closer to zero profit than top of the UK by orders of magnitude. Even top football clubs have precarious cashflows while the season is operating; liquid assets a very small % of overall value.
To demand that the club continue paying all employees out of operating revenues, when you don't know the status of those accounts, is ridiculous. The purpose of the furlough is to look after citizens, without the cruelty of means testing.
Should Sainsburys not take it? They made 7 times the profit Liverpool did last year.
What about Tesco's 321,400 employees? Tesco made 33x the profit LFC did.
The-billionaire-defender has not logged in here. If your solution is to seize all billionaire assets and redistribute I am standing outside Bezos's front gate asking what time the party starts.

But until then, the govt programmes are there for this purpose. ITS WHAT WE WANTED.
Tax the fuck out of the multinationals who operate in the UK to repay the debt incurred by the furloughs. No more tax havens. All great stuff. LFC will be included in that, if that's the solution.
If 200 staff get £1800 a month that's £360k a month of payroll. Probably fine for 2 months. But what if football doesn't come back for 6 months? Should the club run itself to the very brink? Start selling off assets?
Some of you have never worked out cashflow projections for any kind of operating business and it fuckin shows.
Also that £42m profit everyone is quoting is from the result of last season prior to the Madrid final so doesn't indicate the current financial state of the club at all.
Just one more thought: there is no end date on this crisis. We don't have a set time for this to last, we haven't been issued a final bill.

How long can LFC keep up a 20/80 payment, vs paying 100% themselves? Will it ensure they can get staff 100% a lot longer?
As someone whose business has been through this, the number 1 priority for our management was doing the necessary things to ensure that as many people would have some guaranteed income for as long as possible, with the scenarios that this could go 6+ months.

I'm on 60% pay.
