“Nobody gives a shit right now… Better to turn hockey rinks into makeshift hospitals or morgues.“

— Dr. Alan Drummond of the Canadian Association of Emergency Room Physicians on when the NHL & other leagues should resume play.
(Dr. Drummond’s association represents doctors at 850 hospitals across the Canada. Many in urban centres are already operating at 110-120% capacity.)
Dr. Drummond: Even a game with no fans would divert resources from frontline medical workers.
(For starters, paramedics & team doctors required to attend pro league games. Further, if a player injured, how many medical supply resources used on him instead of on Covid patients?)
Dr. Drummond makes his point in blunt terms.
But also important to remember so many families count on the $73B North American sports industry for their livelihoods.
We all want sports back as soon as the medical professionals tell us it’s safe for everyone.
