Can& #39;t work out if this reflects poorly on communication from our profession as a whole. Certainly doesn& #39;t help that a lot of these conversations only happen when someone is acutely unwell.

Last RT is an excellent thread about what ITU care involves, I& #39;d strongly recommend that non-medical friends take a look. Ventilation, critical care and frailty will be the topic of innumerable news reports for a while - will serve you well to have a good grounding in the basics
