The pandemic is revealing and exacerbating inequalities of all kinds. A few examples:
In Philadelphia, Covid-19 appeared first in wealthy, white neighborhoods, then spread quickly in poorer, diverse neighborhoods, where people don’t have the option to work from home. Now a disproportionate number of new patients are African-American. https://bit.ly/2V8cOHo
In New York’s Rikers Island, the virus spread very quickly because the people incarcerated there live in close quarters and don’t have access to soap and water. As a result, the infection rate is four times higher there than in the state at large. https://bit.ly/2V5clFN
The pandemic has resulted in high unemployment rates across all demographics, but it appears Hispanics have been hit hardest, with higher percentages reporting job losses for themselves or for someone in their households. https://pewrsr.ch/2xKBttw
