#Virus. White House briefing. "There will be death," President Trump says. "We want to save lives." Nice, but then he pivots to his now-routine attack on the news media. President's default to flaying is unnerving as well as inaccurate. @kojoshow @wcp
Now President repeating how no one knew of this danger and, remarkably, how the virus is moving from one area to another. The level of surprise in his voice, at this late date, is stupefying. Now again attacking states for inflating requests for aid. "We're a backup," he wails.
"We have to open our country again. We don't want to be doing this for months and months and months," Trump says. (Virus doesn't respond to appeals.) Refers to his major leagues sports phone call, says he wants teams playing "very soon."
President now complaining that governors get more than they ask for, then tell the media the President isn't sending enough. Says some states have more ventilators than they need. (doesn't say how he knows that.) Again says he's surprised at how quickly the virus is spreading.
The President is having a hard time reading his notes. Rises above a monotone only when he ad-libs.
It's painful to hear supposedly empathetic words read without empathy. end of this thread.
